The latest Fonto release is packed with powerful new capabilities, performance upgrades, and smart quality-of-life improvements across the platform. Let’s take a quick tour of what’s new and exciting in Fonto 8.12.
Fonto Editor: Smarter APIs and UI Enhancements
We’re giving developers even more control and flexibility over the Fonto Editor APIs:
- New setEnableUndo API – Exclude specific documents from the undo stack, perfect for automated changes you don’t want users to accidentally undo.
- Save smarter – Attach custom metadata to your save and batch save calls using the new requestMetadata property. Works perfectly with our new save-document-and-wait operation.Â
- Better StructureView integration – Two new UI components, FxVirtualForestCollapseButtons and StructureViewSearchBar, make it easier than ever to add search and collapse/expand functionality wherever you use StructureView.Â

Search integrated in the structure view.
Fonto Document History & Fonto Content Quality
Both Fonto Document History and Fonto Content Quality have been upgraded to .NET 8.0.13, keeping them secure, future-proof, and running smoothly.
Fonto Review: major overhaul & performance boost
We’ve rewritten much of the engine under the hood of Fonto Review — and the results speak for themselves:
- Massive performance gains for large documents: comments now load just-in-time, in parallel with other operations.Â
- Improved reliability: We’ve ironed out edge cases where comments could drift, get lost, or not save properly.Â
- Cleaner UX: Error handling and comment visuals are now clearer and easier to work with.Â
- New editAnnotation API: For custom annotation workflows outside the standard Fonto Review flow.Â
- Fully backward-compatible – just update and go!Â
Fonto Output: upgraded & future-ready
- Upgraded to .NET 8.0.13 and Deno 2.1.10Â
- Improved performance and reliabilityÂ
- Behind-the-scenes work for exciting upcoming features like: Â
- Multi-column layoutsÂ
- Output documents with embedded commentsÂ
Introducing: Fonto One
Fonto One is the new name of the Fonto Integrated Authoring Platform — and it’s taking a big leap forward.
We’re now making AI-assisted content creation a reality. Partners can plug in their own custom AI models to generate draft content based on customer-specific data — and users stay in control with full review and approval before anything’s saved. It’s fast, flexible, and future-proof.
What’s next?
We’re already working on some great new features:
- Fonto Review: Custom annotation types for different navigator views. Tag content with Smart Standards, XBRL data, and more — all repositioned automatically when content changes.Â
- Fonto Output: Include comments in Word & PDF exports, and generate XML outputs for formats like ePI, FHIR, SPL, and beyond — all powered by Fonto’s flexible XQUF engine.Â
AI chatbot integration for Fonto Editor
Interested in integrating an AI chatbot inside Fonto Editor? You’re not alone.
We’ve created an open-source reference configuration to get you started — a flexible package you can tailor to your specific needs. This isn’t baked into the core platform, but it’s easy to drop in and customize. Check out the technical blog post.
